The remarkable life of Elijah the steer entranced artist Martha Raleigh Winsten. A day before being sold at market and certain death in his future, the little three-day old calf was saved. He blossomed in his new environment and the highlight of his most unusual life occurred at the historic Saratoga Race Course. Winsten was impressed by his amazing life and decided to make it into a children's book, Awesom Elijah, to be read by all who love animals and who love to hear about animals who have overcome adversity and gone on to live their lives to the fullest.
